REGIONAL PROJECT “GENI BARCODING: DIAGNOSI DI PATOGENI PER UN VERDE SICURO” (GARDING)

The Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is a partner of the project “GENI BARCODING: diagnosi di patogeni per un verde sicuro – BARCODING GENES: diagnosis of pathogens for a safer vegetation” (GARDING) which was funded by the action Bando 2018 per Progetti di ricerca in campo agricolo e forestale of Lombardia region. The project is coordinated by the University of Verona and involves, apart from the University of Milan, the plant nursery company Vivai Nord.

The main goal of the project is the development and validation of new, innovative methods, based on recent DNA sequencing technologies, to identify the presence of phytopathogens in nursery plants destined to import or export.

The results of this project will achieve a higher level of safety in the movement of plant material, with more reliable monitoring of key and quarantine pathogens, reducing the risk of originating outbreaks of new diseases on the Lombard territory.
