CLASSIFIED FOR THE FIRST TIME THE GRAPEVINES ROOTSTOCKS ON MOLECULAR BASIS
The cultivation of the grapevine is obliged to the use of the rootstock. The rootstocks used derive from hybrids between vine species of American origin resistant to a dangerous parasite of the vine: the phylloxera. For the first time, thanks to a research carried out in collaboration between DiSAA and CREA, 379 accessions including grapevine rootstocks and related genetic materials have been identified with DNA fingerprinting. The work represents a fundamental point of reference for the genetic improvement of the vine.
In the figure: example of molecular-based classification (DNA) of the analyzed rootstocks.
