ASSESSMENT OF THE PERFORMANCES OF A PROCESS TO TREAT ANIMAL SLURRIES
The agronomic use of animal manure is a resource and the ideal method for recovering the nutrients they contain, but can cause emissions to the environment, especially when they are in liquid form. For this reason, the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has activated a collaboration contract with a company that manufactures plants for the treatment of livestock effluents. The activity concerns a treatment that transforms liquid effluents into stabilized solid material thanks to the addition of low moisture organic material (straw, sawdust, corn stalks).
The aim of the work is to evaluate the environmental performances of the process. For this reason, it will be monitored for a production cycle (90 days), checking the mass balance of both volumes and nutrients. In addition, emissions to air of ammonia, methane and carbon dioxide will be monitored.
