THREE-YEAR DEGREE IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Among the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) there is no macro objective not closely linked to agricultural activities. Nowadays, agriculture is called upon to produce increasingly high quality and nutritious food for a growing world population.
How can we ensure that agriculture takes care of the land, the environment and the productive resources at our disposal to guarantee future generations a sustainable horizon? In order to explore some of these complex issues, the Degree in Sustainable Agriculture was set up.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES:
- Solid training on basic subjects including mathematics, informatics, physics and statistics, in addition to chemical and biological disciplines, in order to provide the methodological basis for a full understanding of the new and evolving needs of agricolture vis à vis of a changing environment;
- Multidisciplinary trainings to adapt the knowledge to the changes in production and management of agricoltural processes that we will face in the upcoming decades;
- Technological research in biological, engineering, physiological modelling and production techniques leading to high-quality, abundant and equally distributed food throughout the world;
- Insights on the new agricultural and agronomic technologies that are key to achieve sustainable farming practices;
- Focus on those production pathways that comply with the principles of the circular economy, with maximum use of products, processes and reuse of waste to other industries and production processes in order to learn about methods and techniques for managing natural resources and achieving the maximum sustainability in full reespect of the globe;
- Developmeent of the ability to read and operate the product chain and the markets to which agriculture supplies its products.
METHOD:
Face-to-face lectures are accompanied by classroom and laboratory exercises, but also field exercises in cutting-edge companies twinned with the University. Mentoring activities and study groups are planned, as well as the possibility, strongly encouraged by the lecturers of the course, of an Erasmus + exchange in one of the more than 25 universities with which the University of Milan is twinned.
Enrolling for a sustainable agriculture course guarantees great professional opportunities in the future. Employment figures of our graduates have excellent employment rates. The Three-year Course in Sustainable Agriculture offers students an immediate range of employment opportunities, thanks also to the 4 specialisations included in the course:
- Agri-Food Route;
- Renewable energy pathway;
- Animal husbandry route;
- Short supply chain production pathway.
88 % of our graduates are employed in highly qualified jobs within 12 months of graduating. The renewed magistral course in Agricultural Sciences for Sustainability also includes two highly specialised courses.
