MONITORING IMPACTS OF NEW ALGAE-BASED BIOREFINERY

Lead by Gruppo Ricicla – DiSAA – Univeristy of Milan the project aims to deliver guideline for algae production at full scale.

The use of waste, wastewater and by-products in the frame of circular economy is part of a new economic paradigm which goal is the sustainable development. Waste recovery (C and nutrient recovery) producing microalgae represents a good example of this new paradigm and the developing of algae biorefinery concept is growing very fast. Micro-algae are currently promoted as a new source of valuable nutrients for human and animal consumption, thus the need for an assessment of the environmental impacts and risks associated with this biotechnology is increasing.
