THE DISAA EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH POLE OF EDOLO: EXCELLENCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LINK BETWEEN MOUNTAINS RURAL SPACE AND URBAN SPACE

Professor Anna Giorgi will be present in Brussels at the Euromontana meeting (the European multisectoral association for cooperation and development of mountain areas) to bring the experience of the UNIMONT pole into the intervention: “Adapting educational and research activities to the needs of mountain communities: how is the University of Milano (UNIMONT) taking up this challenge?” inside the workshop: “Rethinking territorial balances between urban and rural areas in the European Mountains:  How can innovation support win-win solutions?”.

The framework of the meeting are the changes that have taken place in the territorial relations between the rural areas, in particular the mountain areas, and the urban ones, such as the inclusion of the Milan metropolitan area in a European development strategy for the Alpine territories (EUSALP Macroregional Strategy). According to the European association, in fact, mountain areas should be recognized not only for their attractive landscapes and good quality of life, but also for their skills, economic contribution, innovation capacity and ecosystem services, in a winning combination with neighboring cities.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of the European Commission, researchers and representatives of local government bodies, in order to understand how to integrate this vision into future European Cohesion Policies.
